I'm sorry to hear about your discomfort. Here are some suggestions based on my knowledge base that might help manage the symptoms of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) while you wait for your screening test:
Pain and Inflammation Management
- Biologics: If approved, biologics like Humira (adalimumab) or Remicade (infliximab) can significantly reduce pain and inflammation. These work by targeting the immune system to reduce inflammation.
- Corticosteroids: For short-term relief, corticosteroids can be injected directly into a painful cyst or taken orally to reduce inflammation.
- Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs): Continue with ibuprofen as it helps with both pain and inflammation.
Odor and Abscess Management
- Topical Antiseptic Washes: Use antiseptic washes like 4 percent chlorhexidine or benzoyl peroxide to keep the area clean and reduce bacterial infection.
- Warm Compress: Applying a warm compress to the affected area for a few minutes can help reduce pain and promote drainage.
- Loose Clothing: Wear loose-fitted undergarments and clothing to minimize friction and irritation.
Additional Treatments
- Hormone Therapy: Birth control pills or devices that regulate hormones can decrease pain and fluid collection in abscesses.
- Surgical Options: If multiple medical therapies have failed, surgical treatments like incision and drainage, deroofing, or wide excision might be necessary.
Immediate Steps
- Consult Your Doctor: Given the severity of your symptoms, it's crucial to consult your healthcare provider for immediate advice and potential adjustments to your treatment plan.
I hope these suggestions provide some relief. Please consult your healthcare provider for personalized medical advice.
