Skin graft. My flares were in the groin area, I’ve had 2 and haven’t flared since. Changed my eating habits also. It will leave scares but anything is better than the pain I was experiencing.

It's a real question whether it hurts — and honestly, the groin is a sensitive spot, so some discomfort is expected. Pain levels can vary depending on the type of laser used and individual tolerance.

It's worth having an open conversation with your dermatologist about what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. As for insurance coverage, it can vary quite a bit. Here are some helpful steps to take:

- Call your insurance company first to ask if laser treatment for HS is covered
- Ask your dermatologist to help provide documentation showing the procedure is medically necessary
- Work with a wound care supply company that is in-network with your insurance if post-procedure wound care is needed

Insurance companies often require proof that treatments are medically necessary, so having your dermatologist advocate on your behalf can make a big difference. It takes a little legwork, but it's absolutely worth asking about.
