If you’re on a biologic, what has your experience been? Did it help? Which one are you on? Did you get sick more often?

I am going to start amgevita. It was not my first choice but the option that insurance was willing to cover.

I've been on Humira for three years. It's been a good experience so far. It has definitely helped me have less new flares, so when I do flare it's usually an old spot from before I started it. But when I do flare, it is smaller, drains faster, and heals faster than it did before. I haven't really had an issue with getting sick more often and I've not had any bad side effects. It did take me a little while to get used to injecting myself but it's not a big deal anymore.

Hannah , You can call The drug manufacturer for Bimzelx and get the Drug for 15.00 a month for, I believe 24 months .If you have H.S. bad this is the Drug . Sound like you insurance company is playing step up game

Did you try other biologics before starting Bimzelx? I have two derms and one was highly recommending Bimzelx and the other said it has bad side effects. I have moderate or stage III HS and really want relief.

Starting a biologic can feel overwhelming, especially when it wasn't your first choice. Many myHSteam members have shared similar feelings about beginning biologic treatment, including concerns about side effects and increased infections.

Biologics work by calming your immune system, which does mean you may be more likely to catch colds or the flu. You can help protect yourself by getting an annual flu shot (just make sure it's not the nasal spray version with live virus). If you develop a fever or flu-like symptoms while on treatment, let your provider know right away so you can be monitored.

One myHSteam member shared their journey: "I went and read through the entire list of side effects and being able to see that for a lot of those scarier side effects, the risk was pretty small. That made me feel a lot better about being willing to try a biologic." They developed a calming ritual before injections and found it got easier over time.

The good news is that biologics don't work immediately—it can take up to three months to see effects—but in the long term, they can help reduce your need for other interventions. Most people find the benefits outweigh the possible side effects, and the overall goal is to help you feel better and improve your quality of life.
