I have surgery scheduled for a week from tomorrow, any advice for the surgery and post-op healing would be lovely!! I'm a bit worried that the tunneling has gone further than just my thigh and into my vulva. Anyone had experience with doctors finding more tunnels than expected while they're working on you? Thanks in advance!

Having that sucker removed was the best decision I ever made. I was wearing lady boxers and skirts for years with goofy looking shoes that just made me feel so self conscious. The pain was awful. It was as big as my pinky finger.

I did my survey back in 2022 and it was amazing, they did it with a laser. So no stitches / no staples.

What advice do you need for excision surgery in the inner thigh/groin area and post-op healing?

First, it's completely understandable to feel worried about the extent of tunneling. Surgeons sometimes do use imaging tests like ultrasound or MRI before surgery to see where tunnels are and how far they spread. If tunnels extend into the vulva area, your surgeon may involve a gynecologist or urologist for those sensitive areas.

Regarding what to expect: groin surgery recovery can be challenging since the wound might be in an area that makes sitting or certain activities painful in the first few weeks. However, the overall healing process is similar to other HS surgeries. Wound healing typically ranges from two to four months after surgery. For post-op care, here are some helpful tips from myHSteam members and medical guidance:

* Follow your healthcare provider's wound care instructions carefully
* Bandaging the groin can be tricky - feminine hygiene pads work well as an absorbent, affordable option
* One member suggested using bed/table liners (like hospitals use) with paper towels to stay dry and prevent leaking
* Wear comfortable underwear - bamboo fabric is a favorite among members
* For pain relief, warm compresses and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen can help

One myHSteam member shared: "It's been a month since my excision surgery, and everything is healing slowly, but it's healing." Another said, "I've had several surgeries and it gave me a lot of relief."

Make sure to discuss specific postoperative care instructions with your surgeon before the procedure.
