Does exercising while having a flare-up make it worse?

Exercising during a flare-up can potentially worsen your symptoms, especially if the activity causes heavy sweating. Sweating can irritate open skin and create an environment where bacteria or fungi can grow, leading to infections or increased inflammation and discomfort.

However, not all exercise needs to be avoided. Low-impact activities like walking, swimming, traditional yoga, and cycling are generally more suitable because they help avoid further skin damage while still promoting overall health.

Here are some tips if you want to exercise during a flare-up:

* Choose low-impact exercises that minimize sweating
* Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that pulls moisture away from your skin
* Avoid exercising in warm or hot environments
* Stay in cool settings when possible
* Exercise during cooler times of day, like early morning or late afternoon

If you're experiencing a painful flare-up, it may be best to rest until symptoms improve. Listen to your body and talk to your dermatologist about which activities are safe for you during flare-ups.
