While HS commonly affects the underarms, it can appear anywhere on the body. The condition typically develops in areas where sweat glands are found and where skin folds and rubs together. The armpits and groin are the most common areas affected by HS. In these areas, painful nodules can form, fill with blood or pus, and potentially leak. Over time, these nodules may develop into abscesses and form tunnel-like connections under the skin. While some people may only experience symptoms in one area like the armpit, the condition has the potential to affect multiple areas of the body.
