Hello Shane 2, I was offered that treatment years ago, but even my doctor back then wasn't happy about the idea, I think he knew something then that i didn't, since this was a bacterial infection, the treatment would have suppressed my immune system but not the bacteria, his concern was that it would control the immune response to the infection but it could have come roaring back worse than before as have happened with other people. So it was discovered that all I really needed was doxycycline the right dosage and frequency and that took care of it for a long time, but the second time I was infected I was given the wrong dosage and wrong frequency and it didn't work and I stayed sick for 13 years and really increased scarring over that period of time. No one is supposed to be taking an antibiotic for more than 30 or so days because we become immune to that antibiotic and it won't work in the future, and that is what happened to me, 50mg every 3 to 4 hours for a few days or so and that's it. But sometimes doctors don't know what they are doing. A 100mg twice a day was way wrong, and 13 years of the wrong dosage and frequency has made a simple treatment nearly impossible. Have you tried doxycycline the right way and have you look up staphylococcus areus infection, everyone who has that i know of has agreed that hs is the immune response to this type of infection. Coming back from wrong treatment is a mountain of problems, and other members of this group have told me that their doctors told them staphylococcus areus was involved in their hs as I was told as well, staphylococcus areus is a form of mrsa ,remember that was killing people years ago, they called it a super bug .the thing about methotrexate is that while it may stop or lesson the painful immune system response, it can make us vulnerable to all kinds of other infections, which means more medicine that may not beat back other infections without a strong immune system or having a weakened immune system, I'd only try methotrexate as an absolute desperate attempt to save my life. But that's only how I feel about myself, I came very close to trying it, same as humira ,I turned it down and then along comes covid 19 and then money pox ,damn what the hell is next lol 😆. That's what I know about the methotrexate treatment, but could you share with me what you're being treated with now? It ok if you don't want to. And what you've tried in the past and have you been told a bacterial infection might be at the root of your hs, lastly have you Google symptoms of staphylococcus areus infection?I look forward to hearing back from you Shane 2 thanks for the question is super important for us all. Happy labor day bro, peace.

HS is not a bacterial infection, it’s an inflammatory response. Most likely. They aren’t 100% sure. Medications which dampen the immune system are supposed to dampen this inflammation. I haven’t tried any yet, but will be starting one soon. I am hopeful.
Staphylococcus aureus is NOT a form of MRSA. Most S. aureus are not MRSA. MRSA is when a strain of Staph is resistant to the antibiotic methicillin. Some Staph species are resistant to multiple antibiotics. There’s no way to know without testing, which is not routinely done. Most people have Staphylococcus aureus as a harmless commensal organism on their skin or in their nose. It’s not disease causing usually.

Antibiotics are not used in HS to kill bacteria, they are used because the antibiotics used also have an anti-inflammatory property. HS is not caused by a bacterial infection .

It’s fine to be on certain antibiotics long term. Humans don’t become resistant to antibiotics, bacteria do. But not always. Long term antibiotic use won’t necessarily cause bacteria to become resistant. That happens if a mutation occurs to make the bacteria resistant. Then the resistant strain takes over and is the dominant strain.

Oh wow, brother I'm so sorry to hear that, it may have had a effect on me too but I wouldn't have noticed it because I was near death, but I do know that most antibiotics can make people sick, I was taking one in 2004 and I remember becoming really weak and dizzy i forgot which antibiotic it was , what did the doxycycline do to you and how bad was it? For me nothing was worse than the hs I was being treated for. Thanks for the hugs everybody 🤗.
