Hi I’ve had h.s for 23years and only got diagnosed 2yrs ago. I went to the doctor when I was 17 and was told that it was because I was fat and that I didn’t wash enough which made me feel so embarrassed that I never ask the doctor about them again until recently. Ugh, I'm so mad on your behalf that your doctor said that to you! How rude! And it's completely untrue! Anyway, tunnelling sucks. I think the way to get rid of tunnels is probably the wide-excision surgery people talk about on here, so definitely talk with your dermatologist about that possibility when you get in to see them. In the meantime, hang in there with wound care. I find manuka honey wound gels nice for healing and they smell good which balances out the discharge smell a bit.
