It's completely understandable to feel anxious about injection pain β€” you're definitely not alone in this. The good news is there are some simple things that can help make injections much more comfortable.

Try these tips before and after your injection:

- Warm up the medication β€” take it out of the fridge a little while before injecting so it's closer to room temperature
- Numb the area first β€” use an ice pack or a lidocaine cream on the injection site before injecting
- Rotate your injection sites β€” don't use the same spot every time, giving your skin a chance to recover
- Apply a warm compress after β€” this helps with blood flow and reduces any swelling or lumps that may form A lump or soreness after an injection is actually a very common and normal reaction β€” it's just your immune system responding to the injection site. Most lumps or sore spots resolve within a few days to two weeks.

However, if the area becomes increasingly red, hot, or more painful after that window, it's worth checking in with a doctor just to be safe.

Many people share the same fears about injections but find that once they get into a routine, it becomes much more manageable. As one myHSteam member put it, after getting past their fear of biologics, it was "the best my skin's been and the least amount of pain I have been in for months."
