Every person is different. I can't eat rich cheeses like Alfredo. Most people are affected badly by milk, however it doesn't. make me flare. It is a long journey. There is a lot of good articles, ppl, and info u can gain from this site. God's blessings.

I'm with you on this trying to find foods that don't make it worse is literally experimenting. What makes flares worse for one person may not make it worse for another. I personally avoid tomatoes and wine. Tomatoes are a nightshade veggie, and wine can turn into process sugar in the body which can make flares worse. I know for me I flare up badly anything with tomato in it like chilli, tomato paste or sauce, certain spices like paprika, even ketchup. And I don't take any chances with wine. This is something you could try everyone is different. It takes time, patience, and endurance. This is complex. Taking one day and one gentle step at a time, helps me not to be overwhelmed, it's a lot, also pacing myself helps me to keep things realistic, and see it from a different perspective, instead of one size fits all. I hope you have a good evening, and that this gives you insight and place to start. 😁

What foods should be avoided with hidradenitis suppurativa?

There's no one-size-fits-all answer, since triggers vary from person to person. That said, some commonly reported culprits are worth knowing about. Here are the foods most often linked to HS flare-ups:

- Dairy – Milk, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. One myHSteam member shared, "Dairy definitely is a no-no for me, even little bits."
- Sugar – Soda, sweetened cereals, syrups, candy, and desserts
- Brewer's yeast – Found in beer, vinegar, and breads like sourdough or pizza dough
- Nightshade vegetables – Tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and peppers. A myHSteam member noted, "Tomatoes and peppers cause killer flares for me."
- Alcohol – Especially beer, which contains brewer's yeast

Keeping a food journal is one of the best ways to spot your personal triggers. An elimination diet β€” where you cut out suspected foods and slowly reintroduce them β€” can also help identify what's causing problems.

Before making big changes to your diet, it's always a good idea to check in with your doctor or a registered dietitian to make sure you're still getting the nutrients you need.
