I've been dealing with HS for a long time, and after fighting through a long approval process, my first delivery of Humira is arriving tomorrow! I'm feeling a mix of relief and nervousness about starting my first dose. I’d love to hear how long it took for others to notice results, any tips for taking the injections, or advice on managing side effects when starting out.

I have been on it for about 2 months. But still got a bad flair up. My doctor told me it will take up to 6 months for it to work in your system

I see oddly before I started i was constantly having flares like clock work but, once I started the meds almost 2 weeks ago I haven't had any flares but today I felt something that doesn't feel like an hs flare it feels like cellulitis so I'm dreading and praying that's not the case. Because the medication has made me more sensitive to everything that I already had sensitivities too. Like I've always had motion sickness when I'm a passenger since I was a kid but I've never vomited. But I rode passenger over the weekend and threw up so bad and that's the first time I had been a passenger since starting the meds.

Thank you so much for this i been trying to do as much research and getting prepared and changing other things alongside the medication to reduce flare ups. Yes patience has been my best friend.

First of all β€” congrats on getting through that approval process! That's no small feat. It's completely normal to feel both relieved and nervous. Here's what myHSteam members and clinical data suggest about starting Humira for HS.

How long before results show?

In clinical studies, improvement was measured at week 12, with between 42–59% of people seeing meaningful results by that point. So patience is key β€” give it time to work.

Tips from myHSteam members for injections:

- Rotate injection sites (e.g., alternating sides of your stomach) to avoid soreness in the same spot
- Stay consistent with your dosing schedule β€” one myHSteam member noticed flares returning after being just over a week late on a dose
- After training from your healthcare provider, self-injecting at home can feel more manageable over time Managing side effects:

The most common side effect is a reaction at the injection site β€” things like redness, itching, swelling, or pain β€” affecting about 1 in 5 people. Some also report fatigue, headaches, or flu-like symptoms after injections.

Important things to watch for:

- Humira can lower your immune system's ability to fight infections, so take any signs of infection seriously and contact your doctor promptly
- Do not start or continue Humira if you have an active infection
- Watch for any unusual symptoms and report them to your doctor quickly

The general advice from myHSteam members is to stay on schedule, keep a close eye on how your body responds, and don't hesitate to reach out to your doctor if something feels off. Wishing you all the best with your first dose tomorrow! πŸ’ͺ
