The groin area is tricky because the skin moves so much throughout the day — totally different from the armpit. The good news is there are some creative solutions that others with HS have found helpful.

Since adhesives struggle to stay put in that area, here are some alternatives worth trying:

- Maxi pads or panty liners — already designed for the groin area, have built-in adhesive, and are made to absorb fluid
- Coban wrap — a self-adhesive bandage that wraps around the area so no tape is needed
- Nexcare Absolute Waterproof Tape — stretchy and sticky, stays on through movement
- Menstrual underwear or absorbent underwear — helps hold dressings in place without adhesive
- Loose-fitting clothing — can help keep dressings in place naturally One myHSteam member shared that for inner thigh lesions, they wrap Coban all the way around the leg to keep dressings secure.

If drainage is heavy, highly absorbent options like alginate or foam bandages work better than hydrocolloid dressings, which trap fluid against the skin rather than drawing it away.

It's always worth bringing these challenges up with your dermatologist — they can help troubleshoot what's not working and suggest better tools or techniques.
