Yeah idk I wouldn’t tell them anything lol keep lights off maybe I’m not sexually active but if I was planning on it I’d just be honestly and let them decide if they want to reasearch it tell them it’s not contagious? Honesty is the best policy in my opinion of they can’t handle it they was not worth your time to begin with

No, it is not contagious. Thank God it’s not. But it’s still embarrassing for me with my husband and when I’ve shared it with my two sisters and two of my closest friends over the past 40+ years. I Mostly feel embarrassed due to my doctor visits my first 30 years of having HS and not having been told the real name of it, nor getting good treatment advice and prescriptions that help heal the wounds. Being told they were fatty deposits/cysts when I had to have them checked due to the awful pain they caused. I’m so thankful I was referred to a great dermatologist a little over 10 years ago. But I still am embarrassed by them because they’re gross looking to me and my squeamish husband, and the other four people I’ve shared my HS diagnosis with.

I've been sexually active for the past 17 years. I was with my first partner for 5 years. We had two kids. I never told him about my HS. He never noticed because he, himself didn't like to have intimacy with the lights on. So, yea, I got away with that one. My second partner, found out a few days after we married. He called me a monster. Wasn't pretty. But like Sarsev444 said, "if they can't handle it they are not worth your time." I left him, while pregnant a month after he found out about my HS. My third partner never found out because we didn't live together. The times we were intimate, it was only at night in the dark. I also had a baby with him (my youngest daughter). I left him because of him cheating. Then, I met my ex in 2022. I had never dated a man younger than me. He's 8 years younger and I was his second. Really had no experience with women I guess you can say. I would always wear fishnets and lingerie that would hide my HS as mich as possible. A few months in, I decided to tell him about my HS and show him what it looked like. I was scared. I thought the worst. I explained to him what it was and that it wasn't contagious. He looked into it himself. All he asked was if they hurt and he said he was going to start to be more gentle when we were intimate. I felt relief. He was with me for four years and went with me to every appointment for my condition. He was a huge support. We recently broke up for other reasons. So yes, there are men and women out there that do understand and don't judge. Those are the ones that are worth your time. Don't let one person destroy your self-esteem and your confidence like my ex-husband did for many years after he called me a monster. I thought I was never going to find someone after him that would understand, and I did. And the one that actually understood and took the time to research it, is 13 years younger than my ex-husband.
