Is aloe vera beneficial for managing hidradenitis suppurativa symptoms?

Aloe vera can potentially help with HS due to its anti-inflammatory, soothing, and wound-healing properties. It may temporarily relieve discomfort, pain, and itching from HS lesions.

Some myHSteam members have found relief using aloe vera. One member shared that when they felt flares under their arm, they immediately applied aloe vera oil, and after a week, the flares were gone.

You can use aloe vera gel or cream on affected areas. For an added cooling sensation, you can refrigerate the gel before applying it to your skin.

However, there are important safety considerations:

• Never apply aloe vera to open wounds, as it may delay healing and cause infection
• Always test a small amount on your skin first to check for irritation
• Talk to your doctor before trying aloe vera or any new product on your skin

While aloe vera hasn't been proven to heal HS wounds or abscesses completely, it may provide temporary symptom relief as part of your overall management approach.
