Between 62-75% of people with HS experience itching as a symptom, and this can occur both during active flares and in healed areas. When HS heals, it can leave behind different types of scars - they may be thickened, raised, or pitted areas of skin. The skin in affected areas can become lumpy, hardened, or rope-like due to scarring, which can contribute to ongoing sensations in these areas even after healing.
