Members shared practical strategies for managing recurring hidradenitis suppurativa flares in the same spot, with many emphasizing the importance of keeping affected areas clean and completely dry using antibacterial soap, Hibiclens, benzoyl peroxide washes, and even blow dryers on cool settings. Several members described life-changing success with the ketogenic diet, reporting that eliminating sugar and carbs led to complete drying of long-term leaking lesions, though flares could return when straying from the diet. A recurring theme was that while no single solution works for everyone, combining dietary changes, anti-inflammatory eating, gentle exercise, and meticulous wound care offered the best chance at managing stubborn flares and achieving remission.

I was recently put on methotrexate for my arthritis. I was shocked to learn it completely dried up all of my active areas. Nothing and I mean nothing has ever dried up all of my hidradenitis. Hopefully it continues to work and isn't a temporary fix, though I'll take it even if it ends up being a fluke

I use Hibaclenz twice a day. Hot water compress in the area.
Vicks vapor rub for area and deodorant.

I am on keto and in complete remission......it took a few months, but I have 2 lesions that have leaked in my groin area for years, and they dried up!!! Keto will not help everyone as we are all different in how we react to what we try, but pretty amazing when it does work!

I typically take more precautions in my problem areas. I make sure to wash the areas with antibacterial soap more than once when showering. I do all I can to keep the area dry (my underarms and inner thigh area) . Might be TMI but I use my blow dryer to dry the area well after I get out the shower and prior to getting dressed. For example I dry my underarms with my hair dryer (low setting not to burn myself or even the cool setting. I make sure it’s 100% dry.
