I was recently diagnosed w/HS after years of struggling with what I thought was cystic acne on my face and occasionally other parts of my body. In the past year, the lesions on my face, which take forever to heal, and continue to grow and tunnel significantly before they heal, months after they developed, have started to drain what appears to be copious amounts of coagulated or clotted blood. I'm not sure if this is actually part of a cyst sac wall or multiple cysts/sacs, but this particular… read more

Its reoccuring because the liner is still present. The scar tissue will get worse and it will pop somewhere else or continue to get deeper if its not properly debried. The coagulation is normal and blood instead of pus is actually a good thing.

I hope you don’t mind but I sent your pics to the nurse that’s treating me. The doctor will take a look at it.

I have tunnels that will drain something close to that. Not as thick, but I'm also on blood thinners. Have you cut into to see if it was a sac filled with pus? Such an awful location. I'm sending you rapid healing vibes!!!

Blood-filled lesions are a known occurrence with HS, particularly in cases where tunnels form under the skin connecting lumps with blood vessels. This type of drainage can happen due to several factors including high inflammation (which causes blood vessels to grow larger and leak), ruptured blood vessels, or when lesions develop into infected abscesses. While some drainage is normal during healing, you should contact your doctor immediately if you experience:
- Excessive bleeding that continues for hours despite applying pressure
- Increased pain and swelling after drainage
- Fever and chills
- Limited movement due to the lesion

In the meantime, manage the drainage by:
- Washing hands before touching the area
- Keeping the area clean with gentle soap and water
- Using sterile dressings to absorb drainage
- Applying warm compresses for pain relief
- Wearing loose-fitting clothes to reduce friction

Thank you for sharing, Susan. I'm sorry that you're going through this as well. I just wish I knew of a clinic where HS is the only thing they specialize in so I didn't have to keep going in disappointing and embarrassing circles explaining and showing my symptoms. Especially because it never amounts to any treatment recommendations or healing relief. Ugh. Thanks for understanding!
