I think being honest with the person from the start and if they are a good person they will stick around. They will have to be able to appreciate that some days and with some flairs, sex is just not going to happen! I always made sure the lights were off to begin with because I was embarrassed of my scars and armpit hair because I couldn't shave. It just takes time but if you find the right person, they will accept it as part of you <3

Intimacy with HS can feel challenging, but there are ways to feel more comfortable. Many people find that wearing comfortable, loose-fitting undergarments like boxer shorts or boy shorts can help reduce friction and provide coverage when needed. Some specialized clothing brands even make underwear specifically designed for people with HS that includes built-in pockets for dressings.
For daily comfort and intimacy, consider seamless underwear options or garments made from soft, breathable materials like bamboo fabric. Some people find success with slightly larger sizes for added comfort and less skin irritation. When managing dressings, there are options that can help you feel more secure and comfortable. Some people use specialized dressings that can be attached to clothing rather than directly to the skin, making them easier to manage and less noticeable. This can help boost confidence in intimate situations while still providing necessary protection.
Remember that HS is a medical condition that affects many people. Being open with intimate partners about your condition can help build trust and understanding. Many myHSteam members have found that honest communication helps reduce anxiety around intimacy.
