To All Who Are Taking Meds...
A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

Does the medicine alone keep you from flaring? If so, what medicine and what are the side effects if you have experienced any from the medication?

My doctor prescribed aldactone and Bactrim twice a day and helped a lot. It’s just you will pee a lot with aldactone bc it’s a diuretic. Also both meds can raise you potassium levels so may have to get checked out periodically

I'm on Humira and it does help prevent new flares from happening. I get a lot less flares than I used to and the ones I do get are smaller and tend to disappear without bursting. I have one active area that was active before I started Humira that hasn't cleared up yet, but my dermatologist said that Humira was best at preventing new ones rather than clearing up old ones, so I'm not surprised. So far I haven't had bad side effects from the Humira, I just had to get used to poking myself with a needle which isn't hard.

@A myHSteam Member Thank you so very much! I'm equally sorry for your loss and sending love light and healing positive energy. For me it helps to keep in mind they never really leave you when you remember them. That's how they live on...through our love for them and our memories.

Hi Chass. I find that controlling your emotions help to flare less. I had a death in my family and I flared behind that. My Nurse told me that HS is from within our body. But, try if you are emotional to calm down and don't worry about anything. Take care Sweetie 😀
