Members shared a wide range of strategies for managing groin and behind flares, with dietary changes emerging as a powerful theme. Several members described finding relief through the keto diet, which eliminates sugar and carbs, with one member achieving full remission after 40 years of HS by strictly avoiding foods like bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes, and substituting with cauliflower rice and cabbage. Many community members described practical wound care approaches including warm Epsom salt baths, diluted vinegar or betadine rinses to kill bacteria and neutralize sweat, bidets or peri bottles for gentle cleansing, and applying barriers like Vaseline, A&D ointment, triple antibiotic cream, or silvidene cream to protect healing skin.

Vinegar is a natural neutralized and antibacterial. It kills the sweat bacteria and neutralizes the ph from sweating. 😊

I've had it in my groin for over 40 yrs and behind a little in the last 2 yrs. I currently have no active HS. I went on the keto diet about 2 yrs ago and my HS went away.....then I went off it, then went back on it last fall. So I have figured out it's sugar that sets me off....Keto is no sugar and no carbs.....and my Dr who doesn't know alot about HS, but he did tell me carbs (potatoes, rices, breads and pasta)....are all carbs and carbs turn into sugar when your body is processing them. So it sounds drastic, but for me it gets rid of my HS, so I am loving it. I read everything for carbs now. I think if you want to lose weight as well, you have to stay under 30 carbs per day. I am not doing that, although I need to. So mostly you eat meat and veggies....you can have bacon and eggs in the morning....then meat and veggies for lunch and dinner. Some with HS are affected by dairy, so I keep that to a minimum. I sub cauliflower rice, or cabbage fried in butter for carb replacement. I mostly drink water or soda water, and there is a ton of flavours like Mio......I love the coconut/pineapple, or orange mango! So I bought a soda stream machine and mostly drink that......if you want alcohol.....liquor has no carbs and I mix with soda water and flavours. Coolers, beer, wine etc all have a ton of carbs and or sugar so I avoid them.....If you try this you will notice a difference in a week, and you will be amazed in 2 weeks. That is IF the diet works for you.....just like everything else with HS, not the same things work for all of us. This has worked for a couple people that I have shared with.....Alot won't try it, because it's too much to give up. I personally LOVE having no HS, day after day after day!!!!! I hope you can try! Please let me know if you do and if it works for you!!! Huge hugs, HS is disgusting and we all hope there is a cure one day. I still do eat special dinners.....like Christmas, Thanksgiving etc, and I usually get a small flare up, gone in a week. Because I am pretty strict with the carbs, I can have a whole chocolate bar occasionally and not flare up....so you don't have to give up anything permanently, although if it work, you will be able to control your HS.....Best of luck!!

I've never tried vinegar, but use it for everything else.....I'll try and remember if I ever get another flare up!

I have no active HS but I still leak, in 2 spots in my groin, and wonder if I use vinegar if it would help....I love natural things, and vinegar is GOOD FOR EVERYTHING, but didn't know it was for HS! What exactl does it do...would like to think maybe it dries up what you put it on??

Tracy. I use Derma-E cream that contains vitamin E and witch hazel and then bandage in the groin if I don't have any meds from doctors. You can find it at Walgreens. I fortunately don't get it on the anus, but I use wipes followed by toilet paper in that area. From others, I have heard Vaseline, like Fatima said, will help in that area.
