Birth Control Effects On HS
A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any information or personal experiences with taking birth control with HS.
I was specifically wondering if it makes the flare ups worse, helps with maintenance, flares up when terminating the use of birth control and the general feeling of taking it.

Thank you,
L

I've been on hormonal birth control since before I developed HS. I don't think it's made much of a difference either way.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the combined pill? And what kind of mental health issues did you have?

So I was taking the combined pill and I think it did reduce my flare ups that were larger and more painful but I did still get the small denser bumps. As I've noticed I get them more since I've stopped taking the pill for mental health reasons. Im not sure though if it's just because my body's trying to get back to its normal cycle and it takes a few months till.
