What Did You Have To Do To Get Your Diagnosis?
A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

Hi so I’ve just started my journey into finding out if I do indeed suffer from HS. I’ve been suffering for around 20 years but I’ve never looked into an any diagnosis because I thought that was just me. I’ve recently had a pilonidal cyst removed and I’m on a round of antibiotics as my stitches have become infected :(
My doctor has also prescribed me a low dose antibiotic to take for 3 months, a wash and nasal cream to be used for 5 days before they consider referring me to a dermatologist. Did… read more

I use a wash daily and a cream, I'm also prescribed meds but to be honest it's an evil disease to live with.

I had this for a long time, had a breast cancer scare and it was the consultant who suggested I may have this. I believe I've always had it to an extent but GPS had no idea on HS

My mum also suffers but hasn’t never been given a diagnosis of hs. I will definitely make a note and try and keep track of my flare ups. They tend to get worse when I’m due a period but I can get them any other time really.

Laura55 It is not normal to have HS that widespread on your body in all the places you mentioned just because you are diabetic. My blood sugar is often 135 or 145 when I wake up and many times 180 two hours after a meal. after 3 hours it is maybe down to 134 or 145 again and many times it is 120 fasting or between meals. I get an occasional bump but not all that you get. I have diabetic relatives and they get a boil or two from diabetes but it doesn’t appear in all the classic apocrine places like HS does and get all that bad. Controlling blood sugar does indeed help. Only other thing that might make it worse is if you have lots of skin folds and sweat a lot, A cousin of mine if he mows the yard or does things to get super sweaty he showers and changes clothes to avoid boils. I slit the sides of my underwear up the outer side seams to make them really loose so I would sweat less and it sure helps. Anything to let air in. Diet deficiencies also cause it. Eating lots of saturated fat clogs pores. I got remission from s certain strain of a probiotic a doctor recommended for IBS and it had zinc and vitamins D in it. I also took Burdock root internally which is high in naturally occurring iodine and is a great blood and skin tonic and put it topically on my bumps and now I don’t have HS and I haven’t even been controlling my diabetes, But my a1c is below 7. When I have tight control it is 5.4 and when I’m bad 6.4. Hormones can cause it. So many things. I also bathe every single day and never wear any article of clothing more than once ever without washing it. The germ biofilm on it just not worth the risk.
