Upper Body Flares Vs Lower Body Flares?
A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

I only have groin/butt flares. I’ve never had any armpit or chest spots at all. I’m wondering for those of you who have both is it similar symptoms or do they have key differences?

There are people on here that have them on their butt, head, face, neck, everywhere there is a sweat gland. I took doxycycline for 5 months to control my HS because my surgeon for my knee replacement didn't want me to be infected with HS for the surgery. Doxy did not work....I was totally infected when I had my surgery. I kept my mouth shut, because I had lived with a painful knee for too long! My family Dr thought that I would be fine because HS is a skin disorder. Apparently acne affects the first layer of skin and HS affects the 2nd layer? Since then I went on the keto diet and my HS went away.....I have had it for 40 yrs and tried almost everything. So I found that sugar is what affects my HS.......keto is no sugar and no carbs.....I also found out that carbs turn into sugar when your body is processing them. I recommend you try everything you hear about on this site. Not the same thing works for everyone.....my diet works for some but not for others! Hope you can find something that gives you relief!

I don’t have an answer today is my first day on the site. But I’m just realizing I get them both under my arm and also butt. I mostly have an issue under the arm. I am currently on clydamycin and 2 weeks of doxycycline (just finished a week a few days before given this script). Now I have one in my butt cheek. Just realized from the question this may not be a regular boil. Someone posted above that flare ups seem to happen when on doxycycline! I have never mentioned to Dr about my cheeks I usually suffer through it and do home care. I sit all day for work and I’m miserably uncomfortable. Glad I found this site, I know no one that suffers with this.

I buy my underwear from Aerie. They have some that have a different kind of elastic in the panty line and they don't cut or put pressure on my boils. They are also cotton so they breathe. I keep a ton of undies in my drawer! 😆 I change them nearly every time I go pee in the summer. 😉 It works for me.
