SevereHSHelpPls. Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. Collard, Mustard, Turnip and Spinach all give you iron. Eat Fish, all types, chicken. Take vitamins D and B. I was on a diet when I was diagnosed with HS in April 2022 but my Dermatologist never told me about a diet . When I started Humira, my Nurse told me to eat whatever I want because HS is not caused from food. Since then I eat everything. I just ate Cherry pie and potato salad and stuffed bell peppers yesterday but I do not have Diabetes. I have HBP so I have to watch my salt intake. Different people with HS have different underlying ailments and you must diet according to those ailments. You must see a Doctor and get a thorough exam, blood test. They will tell you what you have and you will know what to eat and what not to eat. πŸ˜€. Get a good Dermatologist who is knowledgeable with HS and they can really help you to alleviate some of your suffering.

I did the same, but I find when you stick good to a diet, your flares are more controlled, not much pain, and don't last long! I'm behaving again too!

I was listening at everyone saying don't eat that, eat this. When I ate, I got flares. When I didn't eat, I got flares. My Dermatologist NEVER told me anything about what to eat or not to eat. I graduated from Stage 1 HS to Stage 2 HS and my Dermatologist put me on Humira. I asked my Nurse what could I eat. She said eat whatever I want because HS is not caused by food. I can see people with Diabetes and other problems watching their diet. I have been on Humira for two months now. I had 2 very mild flares and now, it's like I never had HS. I am eating and drinking what I want. I just finished drinking Eggnog. I eat cake, cookies, Potato Salad, wheat bread, Ice Cream, whatever and I have no flares from it. I realize if I'm going to get a flare, it's because it's time for my body to get crazy, not from what I'm eating. πŸ˜€

Best of luck Lisa. I've had HS for 40 yrs, but only found out about these foods two yrs ago! I stick to the no sugar, no carb diet, and I have no active HS right now. On Valentines I went out and had a couple packs of Reeses Peanut Butter cups and I had a little flare up and gone in 2 days. Hugs

Yasmine I went on the keto diet and my HS went away. I basically stopped sugars and carbs. I went off it, and am back on now! I don't think it's as strict as what you cut out, and my HS is inactive now. Sugar and carbs seem to be the worst........all carbs turn into sugar when your body is processing them. I am wondering if you are still eating carbs and that's why you are getting flare ups??? You should try some keto recipes...you use almond and coconut flours...alot of grains will affect your HS. I don't feel I'm doing without on the keto diet......it was a bit hard at first....I had to rethink some things....like bread....I have no substitute, other than rolling up say bacon and tomato in a lettuce leaf. I sub cauliflower rice and fry cabbage in butter and sub those for my carbs (potatoes, pasta, rice). Now when I have carbs I feel so full! I still go all out at special occasions and eat whatever, but my hs is very minimal, and goes away quickly. I could probably have a chocolate bar right now and not be affected at all......Hugs
