I started showing symptoms at 13 years of age. The doctor I was seeing told me I was just unclean and told me to wash better. However, I always knew it was more. As you all know it then can eat away at you mentally. I didn’t truly learn what I had till my mid 20s and the. Confirmed it when I was pregnant with my first child at 27/28. Even though the flares are getting worse I still struggle to be taken seriously it seems. Last time I asked about medical intervention I was told to that surgery… read more
I’m so sorry that at such a young age you were told that you were unclean. Shame on that doctor. My son was also told the same thing and he showers twice a day. This illness is horrible. He had surgery in his groin area which left open wounds for 2 months. Some of the area has still not healed and now it has spread to his arm pits. My son is single and feels he will never be able to have a relationship with anyone. Good luck and my heart goes out to you!
Oh, when I Iived in Ft. Worth I was diagnosed at age 28 so they knew what it was. Since moving to this golden triangle area I have been told I was dirty and threatened to report me to CDC and all kinds of bull 🐂 until I found the right dermatologist and even then they treat me like a lost cause sometimes.
WOW to know i am not the only one that went through years of not knowing what HS was and where it came from, how i got it and why it started at such a young age. I was 9 when i started to see bumps in my grion as i grew and became active with sports it became worse. At the age of 25 was when i found out what HS was and how to treat it, it sucks cause ive had to endure sooooo many scaring due to not having a proper diagnosis. I am currently single; by choice. I some times think i wont find love but with a mind set like that i wont get far..... I pray god blesses me with a man that is understanding and caring. Lauren take care and if you need me send me a mssage at any time !! I wish you the best. ☺️
Have you been paired with a dermatologist? I told my pcp to refer me to the one of my choosing and that is how I got diagnosed and soon started my treatment journey…
I started takingAcitretin (20 MG’s) per day and find that it is really helping. I am 66.
