I've had a few bad experiences. Ask your surgeon how many people he/she has treated for HS. Ask if you can see photos of the surgical procedure. I did not understand what "wide excision" meant when I had my first surgery in 1997. They actually did not even use the term. They told me that I would have holes under my arms. I came home from surgery and was still clueless until I had to change my bandages. I was unprepared and horrified. The deroofing that I have been reading about and the laser was never offered to me, but it sounds like a much better option than wide excision. Explore your options and understand what the procedure really is. It took me almost a year to heal from that first surgery and I was not able to raise my arms above my head for two years. Then the boils came back. I had to have another surgery. Research the information is the best thing I can tell you. There are a lot of post surgical photo images on Google. I will say, after the second surgery, I've had almost no problems under my arms. I don't even have to wear deodorant because my sweat glands are gone. But the scars are significant. Most of the time people do not see them even when I wear sleeveless tops. My heart is with you and I hope you get some relief. 🤗

I have not had. Just once they surgically cleaned my wound and put a drainage. It helped me to heal faster. I was really bad that time.

Sadly I've had this done and I got flare ups in the areas around where the surgery was done. My advice is to thoroughly research what causes flare ups and learn to manage and follow a regime you're comfortable with before doing surgery so the transition won't be difficult.

Botox was used as a treatment several years ago, but I'm pretty sure they stopped using it for treatment. Not sure about that.
