I became paraplegic in May of 2019 and I was diagnosed with HS when I was 16 years old. Since my injury I have had more HS flare ups than I ever have before. I do have two chronic stage 4 wounds and along the left side I’ve recently started having major major pain shoot throughout my hips(left to right; right to left) and I get a burning stabbing sensation along my inner groin area. I know it’s a long shot to reach out and see if anyone has ever experienced anything like this but I couldn’t help… read more

First — thank you for reaching out. What you're carrying is incredibly heavy, and it takes real courage to ask for help. You are absolutely not alone in this.

The shooting hip pain and burning, stabbing sensations in your inner groin area are serious symptoms that need urgent medical attention. Pain at a 10/10 is your body sending a very loud signal. Please contact your doctor or go to an emergency room as soon as possible, especially given your complex history. The burning and stabbing sensations you're describing along your inner groin could be related to neuropathic pain, which is actually more common in people with HS than many realize. Research suggests that chronic HS inflammation can damage nearby nerve fibers, leading to sensations like shooting, burning, or stabbing pain.

Given your stage 4 wounds and history, a full evaluation including blood work and neurological exams would be critical to understanding what's driving this pain. Managing pain at this level often requires a combination of approaches, which may include:

- Medications targeting nerve pain specifically
- Biologic medications to reduce the deep inflammation driving HS flares
- Mental health support, because this level of pain takes a serious emotional toll
- Physical therapy tailored to your specific situation

Your care team — ideally including a dermatologist familiar with severe HS — should be coordinating these pieces together for you. Please don't wait on this. The combination of your symptoms, wound history, and pain level makes this a situation where getting seen quickly really matters. You deserve a team that takes every part of this seriously — and they should.
