I've been using non stick gauze pads and film dressing for burns or stitches so they don't get wet. They're waterproof but still breathable. They really help with the pain in inside of the thigh with rubbing. I get a big box on amazon. They come in different sizes too.

Yes, HS wounds can heal on their own, but the timeline varies a lot from person to person — and even from lesion to lesion. Healing can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months.
A myHSteam member shared: "The flare-up on my breast that refused to go away for seven months finally started to heal this month." Others have had wounds open for three weeks or more. So patience is key, even when it's really frustrating. Since the skin is already compromised and the bumps are now open, it's a good idea to reach out to a dermatologist — especially since Lotrimin was applied before they opened. Here's what to focus on in the meantime:
- Keep the area clean using warm water and a mild, gentle soap
- Avoid scrubbing — rubbing too hard can cause more inflammation
- Change dressings frequently to keep bacteria away
- Watch for warning signs like fever, dark streaks spreading from the wound, skin that stays hot or swollen, or worsening pain
These warning signs could indicate an infection and would need prompt medical attention. It's also worth avoiding any movements or activities that might strain or reopen the wounds. For example, a myHSteam member dealing with a breast flare-up noted they had to avoid bending over because of how sore it was.
Given that the skin was already irritated before the wounds opened, checking in with your dermatologist sooner rather than later would be the safest move. They can make sure everything is on the right healing track.
