I am blond, and the root of my hair folicule is therefore too light for laser hair removal. The only permanent hair removal technique I can therefore do is electrolysis. I did one session on both my underarms, and it was very painful, I was only able to do one armpit the following session, and then stopped completely.

For hair removal with HS, it's important to avoid methods that pull hair out from the root like waxing or plucking, as these can cause additional inflammation. If laser isn't an option, using an electric razor to trim hair is generally recommended as a safer alternative to other hair removal methods. While electrolysis isn't specifically discussed in the search results, the pain you experienced is understandable. Consider discussing pain management options with your healthcare provider if you want to continue with electrolysis. They may be able to suggest ways to make the treatment more comfortable or recommend alternative hair management approaches that are gentler on your skin while still helping to manage your HS symptoms.
