Current research shows that HS affects people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds. However, studies have found that Black and biracial people are most impacted, developing the condition at nearly three times the rate of white people. Research about HS prevalence in other ethnic groups, including Indigenous peoples, is still limited. The genetic component of HS is significant - studies indicate that up to 70% of people with HS may have a genetic connection, with about one-third reporting a family history of the condition. Around 40% of people with HS have a close family member who also has it. This genetic link crosses all ethnic backgrounds, making your interest in family connections quite relevant.
