Shaving can have varied effects on hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) depending on the individual:

- Positive Effects: Some people find shaving beneficial as it prevents hair from pulling and causing boils. Using sensitive shaving cream or soap and being careful around boils can help.
- Negative Effects: Others avoid shaving because it can irritate the skin, cause cuts, and potentially worsen HS symptoms. Dermatologists may advise against it due to these risks.

Ultimately, the decision to shave should be based on personal experience, the severity of HS, and dermatologist advice.
