I had the worst abscess under my left arm 3 years ago. I was hospitalized because at that time I had them under both breast and buttocks. Anyhow, it’s been 3 years and my left arm won’t stop draining. I mention it to my physician every time I go see him and I’m always hospitalized to receive antibiotics, but no surgery. I had surgery under both breast but never my underarm. I’m beginning to stress a lot about it because it seems to be getting worse and won’t stop draining, not to mention the… read more

I'm really sorry to hear about your struggles with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Here are some suggestions based on my knowledge base:

1. Consultation with a Specialist: It might be beneficial to seek a second opinion from a dermatologist or a surgeon who specializes in HS. They can provide a fresh perspective and possibly suggest different treatment options.

2. Surgical Options: Since your left arm continues to drain, discussing surgical options like deroofing or wide excision with your doctor could be helpful. These procedures aim to remove the affected tissue and may provide more lasting relief compared to antibiotics alone.

3. Wound Care Plan: Ask your healthcare provider about a comprehensive wound care plan. This can include:
- Topical antiseptic washes: Using products like 4 percent chlorhexidine or benzoyl peroxide to keep the area clean.
- Warm Compresses: Applying a warm compress to the affected area to help with drainage and pain relief.
- Loose Clothing: Wearing loose-fitted undergarments and clothing to minimize friction and irritation.

4. Support Groups: Joining a support group like myHSteam can provide emotional support and practical advice from others who understand what you're going through. Sharing your experiences and hearing from others can be very comforting.

5. Mental Health Support: Given the emotional toll HS can take, consider speaking with a mental health professional. They can help you manage stress and feelings of withdrawal.

Remember, it's important to keep communicating with your healthcare provider about your symptoms and concerns. Don't hesitate to ask about all available treatment options and what might work best for your specific situation.
