I didn't have any flares in Mexico, I ate sugar and carbs every day. I got home and tried to look up HS people in some Mexico cities and there don't seem to be any. I have always thought when I go to the Caribbean my HS is good, and I have always thought it was from the salt water? But now I'm wondering if it's the way they cook their food, I find it odd I can't find people from Mexico with HS?????? I got a flare the day after I returned, so back on the diet??? I am puzzled???

Members explored why someone's hidradenitis suppurativa stayed in remission while eating carbs and sugar in Mexico but flared immediately upon returning to Canada, despite usually managing symptoms through a ketogenic diet. Several members proposed that differences in food processing, fewer artificial additives in Mexican products, fresher local produce with higher vitamin content, natural sun exposure for vitamin D, and even delayed reactions to carb consumption could explain the puzzling pattern. A recurring theme was the powerful role of dietary modification in managing HS, with multiple members celebrating their own success on keto or low-carb diets and expressing frustration that more research and medical support aren't available for this life-altering condition.

Keto is the best for hs. I noticed when I stopped the carbs and fast I stopped having severe flare ups, the boils drain faster and a scale from 1to 10 the inflammation would be at 2or 3.i don't even need the humira injections anymore.its been 3 years.

Yes I am totally aware that the same things will not work on all of us, but I also believe there is not enough money spent on research. My Dr is surprised keto has put me in remission and looks up his info, and tells me diet has nothing to do with HS, but I am proof and I do also know a couple other people on here that it works for too! I know it 's not the cure for everyone, but I feel for the people here that spend hundreds of dollars on Medical care and prescriptions, when Dr's guess at what will help and prescribe meds that they HOPE work, although no consistent proof that some of these meds will. Some also on here have new symptoms from the drugs prescribed that seem to last after they quit taking the meds! I feel the people on here can give better advice than most Doctors! Proof of that are on this site repetitively where people have been misdiagnosed BY DOCTORS. Those that don't have HS have no idea how devastating HS can be. I'm sure there are suicides related to HS! I hope somewhere they are doing research and close to answers!

Frieda I am normally in remission in Canada because I'm on the keto diet. I tend to cheat alot, so I do have flares but they are minimal, and when they start I stick close to the diet. I have gone south for about 25 yrs, and every time I go down there, my HS is awesome. I have only been doing keto for about 2 yrs off and on and is the only thing I have found that works to get rid of my HS. So when I went south this time I completely went off my diet, ate carbs with every meal, and sweets as well, so was surprised my HS didn't bother me. I visited friends when I got back to Toronto and still ate carbs, but flares started up right away......odd that I can have them down south???? I agree though that Canadians are more into healthy foods rather than processed or fast foods. I think our country is more strict about foods and medications we are allowed to have in our country.

@A myHSteam Member I am so glad that you had a chance to get away and have a wonderful vacation. I am certain that there are people in Mexico that have HS, they probably just don't talk about it some countries like we do.
On another note, I am loving my zero carb Ketogenic diet! I eat higher fats and protein and I am feeling great. My HS is not in remission yet, but better! I hope that you feel better soon. πŸ™πŸΎβ€οΈπŸ™πŸΎ
