Is HS Something I Was Born With? Or Did My Body Make It From Some Type Of Other Way That I May Not Know About?

I'm so unhappy about this and mad. Am I wrong?

No you are not wrong and your feelings are perfectly valid and normal. I also hate this thing and have felt a whole rollercoaster of emotions from diagnosis to every new piece of information I’ve learned.

From my research, I found that dr.’s and scientists still are not sure what causes HS. There hasn’t been a lot of research done. Some believe it may be genetic or that certain genetic factors may make you more likely to have it, but it hasn’t been proven.

It has been proven that poor hygiene is NOT the cause. However, reducing bacteria and germs in problem areas is super helpful in reducing flare ups and infections.

Many people have strong opinions about diet being the cause. Some people have found success in reducing their flares by eliminating things from their diet.

I personally believe that HS is tied very closely to hormones and hormone fluctuations. I don’t have any specific advice for treatment directly relating to hormones, it’s just what I have observed personally. Things like eliminating sugars from your diet and some of the major medications used for HS do change hormone levels.

Ultimately, there is a lot of trial and error involved in finding what works best for you. This group is a great resource to learn tips you might not find just searching online. My personal plan is to learn as much as I can and find as many tools for my own HS toolbox as I can.

I’m still trying to find a dr. Who is caring and knowledgeable about HS. I’ve even been misdiagnosed and shamed by a dr.

Hang in there and know that you are not alone, and it is not your fault. I hope you can find some strategies that will help you ❤️

Heather you are spot on. I'm no longer with that diet thing, However we all need to eliminate sugar from our diet, and a diet can help you in several areas not just HS. But I also believe it is hormonal. I wish they would hurry and find a cure.

There are going to be days like that. But remember that you are more than this disease alone. Try not let it rob you of your joy.

Bless you Jenelle, you absolutely did not cause H.S. & as others have said, Dr's scientists don't really know what causes it. One of the most important things to do (besides getting good medical support) is to try & keep your stress levels to a minimum. Listen to relaxing music & focus on your breath 🙏🏾
