How Do You Deal With The Mental Side Of HS?
A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

Hi all, I am really struggling mentally at the moment with my HS which is putting a strain on my relationship as he always thinks it’s him no matter how many times I say it’s not and this will pass, it’s just another side effect of the condition. It has gotten a lot worse lately as I had surgery beginning of sept for incision and drain on right armpit and since then have had two flare ups in both armpits, I am now on second round of co-amoxiclav, with the possibility of another surgery on the… read more

Hi Haley! Thank you for opening up and speaking to how this affects us mentally. It can really be damaging. Many many years ago, over 20 to be more precise, I went the antidepressant route. It really didn't help with anything other than making me feel more withdrawn. I spent the last 18 years trying to just survive the ups & downs of HS and life. I started using hemp based CBD not expecting much but it has truly helped me with anxiety, sadness, tiredness, moods, kinda everything. Have you ever considered going a more holistic path for your mental well being? It might be worth a try. Much love & hugs.

Hi Hayley, I can see you are in the UK and we have a virtual meeting once a month to support each other. It can feel a lonely place living with hs and can really help to meet others who no how it I feels. If you need any more information we are on Facebook and Instagram or you can email (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators)

Hey @A myHSteam Member - thanks for vulnerably sharing where you're at. Know that you're not alone with how you're feeling. Managing HS is really a journey and a process. We're planning on hosting a support group call with other members in this community. Would you be interested in attending so that you can speak to others who understand?

Hello. It has for me also. I'm a big girl almost 6 ft 300 pounds. It makes me very body conscious. In most of my relationships it's been a problem.

@A myHSteam Member I have not yet looked into the holistic side but I will keep this in mind thank you,and thank you for sharing your story with me.
@A myHSteam Member I think that is something I can try I am not very confident in new situations so can’t promise I can share much especially when feeling down as I will just cry and no one will understand me.
Thank you @A myHSteam Member for your story, I am not a follower of any religion but not a disbeliever either. Glad you’ve found something that works for you
