I have suffered for many years and was married. I have been divorced 3 years and have just started a new relationship. My outbreaks are always in my arm pits, on my boobs and in my groin so they look and small awful when I have an outbreak. I have been taking lymecycline to treat it for years but don't think it works. The doctors in Britain don't seem to have an answer or care to be honest. The pain can be excruciating as you all know and I just want relief after suffering for 30 years.

When I was in a similar situation. I told them straight up and that it's not infected and opened up a bit about the struggle when I thought things would go that way. I didn't like it felt so uncomfortable but the right person will just say okay and ask any questions and respect you. I then texted them a link about the condition so I didn't have to talk too much about it . Fast forward on now they help with my wound management which is another bonding level. How ever ugly you feel your partner should be your personal hype man. Hope it goes okay and smoothly for you when you do tell them.

Oh..and I forgot..I also have wheat and gluten intolerance which is also apparently connected to this condition..my entire medical history of everything that has happened to my body over the years can be explained by this poxy hs!! And all of these things happened to my mum..and her mum..my aunt on the same side of the family..my brother..his son and my daughter. And none of them have ever been diagnosed and have suffered like myself for years. So why don't doctors know more about it? Not one doctor even suggested this to my mum..even when she had to have both of her armpits surgically removed! Not one!

Hi Yvette. Having suffered for 30 years too..and only just being diagnosed I have been looking into answers too. People (male and female) are getting promising results from using finasteride..1 5mg tablet per day. It may be worth you looking that up and doing some research. This drug works by reducing body hair (but not the hair on your head..so don't panic!) It's more commonly used by balding men..but they have found that it is actually helping many hs sufferers male and female..as by reducing the bodily hair it reduces the outbreaks in the hair follicles. Other than that..some people try hair removal lazer treatment..but I am personally going to try finasteride first..as you can buy this quite cheaply online..and I know this because I already buy it for my trans daughter to reduce her body hair. Hope this helps..it certainly is worth a read on other case studies that have tried it.
