Bandages
A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

I have a spot on the side my breast. It is aggravated by friction from my bra and the arm seam of my shirt's. I am sensitive to adhesive tapes and it is a sensitive area. I have used paper tape and a nonstick pad but that doesn’t stay on well. Any bandage recommendations? What do other folks use in sensitive areas? Thanks. ❤️‍🩹

They're expensive, but silicone foam dressings were the best thing I found that didn't aggravate my skin. I save those for when I have something that's draining or bleeding a lot. My wound care nurse recommended using gauze pads and Medipore tape, which I got on amazon. I still have to rotate where I put the tape occasionally, but it takes a lot longer to irritate my skin, and it's way cheaper than silicone dressings, so I use that a lot.

I really really appreciate the advice. It was very helpful. All the tips I can get to help combat hs the better. I haven’t tried tea tree yet but I have heard it is a excellent homeopathic solution. I will look into trying it.

I had a similar issue a few years ago.
Not easy if you have to work around a bra- have you tried a 'monthly' liner or pad stuck to the inside of the bra? Can roll them up for disposal, easy to change.
I had to switch to sport bras.
Also for the 'HS trouble spots', to get inflamed, painful pustules to open & drain, I use Nature's Gift DMSO Cream (cream base with 99% pure DMSO and Aloe Vera mixed in as a 70/30 blend). It gives the painful bumps a cool feeling of relief for a time. Those inflamed bumps are all I use it for.
I make my own finger cots (cut the fingers off vinyl medical gloves), FIRST have the bandages prepared - tap the cream on the inflamed bumps, apply the bandage, or I stick a 'monthly' liner or pad in my undies positioned where they'll cover those bumps.
THE PUSTULES SHOULD OPEN AND DRAIN IN 2 DAYS, 3 MAX.
Again, that's all I use it for.
After any pustules are drained/healed, in shower I handwash my 'HS trouble spots' with Jāsön Tea Tree Bodywash and leave it to soak in while I step away from the water and wash the rest of me (hair too).
Rinse the 'HS trouble spots' last.
I keep a small clip-on fan in the bathroom to airdry the 'HS trouble spots' after I pat them towel dry (keeping them dry as possible is so important, I've found (I go to sleep w/my arms up by my head to expose my underarms to the air in an effort to keep them dry!)).
For the breast area, I handwash underneath with the Jāsön TT Bodywash, pat dry, fan dry, make my bandages (my pick, 4" nonstick pads, use cloth bandage tape with nonlatex adhesive (comes in rolls) on 2 edges), set aside. Apply the DMSO Cream to inflamed bumps, apply bandage.
EVERY morn & eve, whether I have a breakout or NOT, I use SkyOrganics Tea Tree/Witch Hazel Facial Toner (comes in a spray bottle, gentle, I use it on my face too), spritz on a cotton facial pad and pat onto 'HS trouble spots' and stand in front of the fan to dry them again.
I also spritz the TT facial toner inside the chest band of my bras at night & allow to dry before wearing the next day.
At present I have no breakouts, my skin is near normal skintone.
The Tea Tree products are so healthy for skin- I have Desert Essence TT Facial Cleansing Pads, Desert Essence TT Soothing Relief spray to soothe bug bites/irritation, the bodywash, the spray toner...it's gold for my troubled skin. Most are available in the skin care aisle of natural foods grocery stores, also online at the big delivery store that starts with A.
Sorry to write a book, I just hope something in this can help you.
