I’ve noticed that this skin condition has a very strong impact on many peoples mental health . I’ve seen people on different groups say that this has made them want to commit suicide and that breaks my heart. When I got diagnosed with hs my life completely changed, I’m currently writing this with a bad flare up. My perspective on hs has changed, I no longer allow this condition to affect me and my ways of living. I made the decision that I will push through the pain, that I will no longer hide… read more

Glad you are being strong. I wasn’t dirty per se in the classical sense of being dirty. But I did have hygiene issues causing mine. One was reapplying old germs on a freshly washed body from my roll on antiperspirant. Switched to spray and cleared it up. Friction from exercise in chlorinated pool was another cause. Quit getting in chlorinated pools. Resistant germs at the gym. Quit the gym. Underwear too tight. Got baggy cotton underwear. Had to start changing underwear pads 3 times a day even if not soiled. Changed underwear immediately if sweated on them. Changed HS bandages, washed wound, reapplied topical meds if medicine absorbed, if had discharge at all. Changed bandages several times a day as needed. Used unscented baby wipes after toileting. Had to stop using razors in certain places. Had to wash before shaving and sanitize wet dry electric shaver with alcohol. Sometimes my underwear seemed to irritate me while trying to sleep from sweating so I’d just take it off. Germs are invisible opportunists. We may look clean and smell clean and think hygiene not the cause. It isn’t the root cause because some people are downright filthy and will never get HS because their pores and body defense is different. But with my skin if I do or not do certain things to it I’m gonna get an HS vicious cycle. I think I was getting resistant germs from public places as well as sometimes upsetting my own skin flora. I had HS for two years this last time and one bump that didn’t heal for a whole year. But I finally killed it all out. Never used antibiotics or anything. The antibiotics didn’t seem to help except for triple antibiotic salve to make them pop and heating pad. It was work too. Thought HS was going to wear me out!!!
