Can Anyone Tell Me What Triggers Their Flare-ups.
A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed in 2002 by a dermatologist. She really talked about it like it was not that big of a deal...I guess because it had just started and was not that bad yet. So I never went back. Now 20yrs later I have awful scars, terrible pain, and there is one place under my arm that drains almost all the time and never goes away. It doesn't always hurt when it is draining, but it is the worst pain in the world when I get a flare up.

Sometimes it is just the HS itself that does what it does, regardless your nutrition, BMI, lifestyle or mental health.

Live and eat healthy, with a balanced diet (def helps) but don't expect that this would solve the flare ups. You might most likely need extra medical support.

Flare ups for me are sometimes caused by heat. Can't wear tight clothing, and can't handle much sweating. Also, the condition attacked me in a new area after staying in one zone for 26 years. This attack, I believe happened due to great STRESS. Our home flooded twice. Once in Hurricane Harvey and two years later in Imelda. My blood pressure is good and I am not diabetic. But, the stress of living with family with no room, in a FEMA hotel, tiny travel trailer and losing all possessions took my h.s. to a new level. Then, we remodeled twice, and sold the home and had to move.

Everyone’s triggers are different. I have found that an anti-inflammatory diet helps- just make sure you’re getting enough of what your body needs! Other things that are triggers for me are my periods and stress. Nicotine as well, im currently trying to quit smoking. Things that can cause irritation are scented soaps or deodorants, scrubbing/friction, sweating, bras and tight clothes. I hope this was helpful!

It is possible to have the area surgically excised to provide relief.
