Has Anyone Needed Surgery For This Before??
A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

I have had this condition since my mid twenties and I'm now 42. Back in October, I ended up with a cyst so deep I didn't realize it existed until it was too late! My fever spiked to over 103 and I went by ambulance to the hospital and they had to do a cystectomy in my groin! The infection was so bad that it had spread to my bloodstream and I was septic. This almost killed me ... Twice! I was hospitalized for two weeks and came home with an open wound that I referred to as my "flesh pocket" bc I… read more

That is almost exactly what happened to me!!! Never even heard or vulvar hs or hs at all! Didn’t think i was ever getting out of the hospital. Ambulance ride, Went septic, kidneys started acting up. Was on bags and bags of iv meds. And talks of putting under to fight the infection that way. Thank god kidneys kicked into gear. They said it was just an infection in my lymph nodes. crazy thing was Didn’t get diagnosed with vhs until 3-4 months later when it came back and i freaked out cause i swear it’s almost like a ptsd of that pain and goin septic. Went to new Dr who took one look at it and was like this is exactly what it is. Sent me to a surgeon. Who instead of doing surgery put me on the 3 months rifampin and clindamiacin. Which i feel like is slowly helping the tunneling but is making me gain weight so bad! Like 11 lbs my first month! (Started week 5 yesterday) sorry I’m rambling! Just wanted to say you’re not alone. And it’s so good to know I’m not either!

Incisions made along the bikini line and tail bone. Meets in the middle and stops somewhere in the pilonidal cyst area....Red represents the open wound which must be packed with wet to dry dressings and the Grey area represents incisions/tunnels made under the skin. A "Y is"formed by the 3 Incisions meeting in the middle

I've had 50+ surgeries over the past 28 years. In one surgery the doctor told me they removed over a cup of fluid from a cyst on the front of my pelvic area. Let me tell you... Y'all haven't lived till you get a Y cut incision. 😖
