Hey everyone,
I'm new to this site but have had HS as long as I can remember. I'm now 34. I haven't been to many docs but am having terrible flare ups again in my upper thigh/ groin area... there must be a doc that can help me with this! Does anyone know of any dermatologists in the upstate New York area, specifically near Rochester, NY... that are familiar with HS?
Also, if anyone can suggest cleansers, lotions, etc to deal with flare ups I'd be so grateful

Don’t put bandaids! It will only make it worse! When you take them off it will pull any hair and make inflammation worse. How are there not any doctors that specialize in this? We are suffering
Check the dermatology list at hsconnect.org to see if there's a derm in your area! I know we have many on there in NY! I wear mens boxer briefs now and it's been a huge game changer for me!
Boy shorts underwear reduced my flares and don’t irritate the area. I was reluctant to buy them but they were a game changer for that body area
Hi Casey, I am from Colorado so I don't know any doctors out there but I do have some advice to hold you over until you can get in to see a dermatologist! Get in asap because they have so many options that may help you!! I also see a hormone doc to remove all sex hormones from my body.
1 - clean all of your wounds daily with alcohol (if they are in your inner thighs and rub/tear/bleed, then cover them with Band-Aids - It will help you be able to walk (I know this seems crazy painful, which if I am being honest it is pretty painful to clean them, but in the long run it is worth it. I use alcohol wipes from the drug store)
2 - Don't eat yeast or dairy (I don't eat dairy, yeast, meat, nightshades, sugar or gluten)
3 - Ice your wounds nightly to reduce swelling (unless they need to release, then warm compress)
4 - Do everything you can to keep them dry - its a life saver
5 - If you smoke - stop. It really does help.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I am here for you!
Generally when talking about the risks with smoking it's referring to tobacco/ nicotine, yes. As well as the chemicals in the tobacco... not so much the act of smoking/ vaping other substances. Vaping cbd, shouldn't be near as risky as smoking cigarettes (vaping nicotine on the other hand can be more dangerous than smoking it!)... however, make sure you know all additives in your cbd cartridge. Many manufacturers will put all sorts of crazy things in vape liquids to attempt to make them stronger/ cheaper/ tastier/ etc. Just be certain you know your vendor/ manufacturer... these things have zero regulation! That being said I'm a huge proponent of cbd (and thc- tho I don't use it), I use a tincture often n find it to be a wonderful tool for mental (and physical for some) wellness!
