I'm Not Convinced It's HS
A myHSteam Member asked a question 💭

I have had a 'cyst' for a over a year. It does not drain unless I squeeze it and it is mostly blood. It normally doesn't get inflamed but if it does, it is not major. It only hurts if I try to squeeze it. My derm says it's HS. I'd like to take my chances and have someone lance it. When it first presented, I thought it was an ingrown hair from waxing. It's completely understandable to have doubts about a diagnosis, especially with a condition as complex as hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Here are a few steps you might consider:

1. **Seek a Second Opinion:** It's always a good idea to get a second opinion from another healthcare provider who is familiar with HS. They can provide a fresh perspective and confirm or revise the diagnosis.

2. **Diagnostic Criteria:** Ensure that the diagnosis was made based on the typical signs of HS, such as recurring painful abscesses, nodules, and scarring, primarily in areas like the armpits, groin, and under the breasts.

3. **Document Symptoms:** Keep a detailed record of your symptoms, including their frequency, location, and severity. This information can be very helpful to healthcare providers in making a diagnosis.

4. **Consult a Specialist:** Consider consulting a dermatologist who specializes in HS. Specialists are more likely to have a deeper understanding of the condition and can offer more specialized care.
