Flair Ups Around Menstruation?

Flair Ups Around Menstruation?

I've had hidradenitis for over 20 years now. Has anyone else noticed flair ups a week before menstruation? I've been working with my obgyn to try to figure out a way to stop my cycle completely bc like clockwork, a week before I start, I flair.

There's a dermatologist at Cleveland clinic named Margaret Hammond. I advise you to try to see her. She has reviewed a lot of articles about HS on Practice Update. Also, have you been tested for lupus? And, I'm not a doctor, but I would ask about the ortho evra before I took the depo shot. A lot of women I know who took that shot had problems. The ortho evra is a patch and can be removed if it causes you a problem. Once you literally inject something into your body, you can't suck it back out. You just have to deal with the misery until it wears off. Again, I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like you have PCOS and maybe even lupus. Lupus is often missed because they are trying to deal with the HS. When I can control my lupus, my HS is so much better. Crohn's and lupus go hand in hand quite often. I take PB8 for my IBS. The antibiotics have done serious damage to my gut. The PB8 helps. Prednisone is a godsend for me. It controls my lupus and the HS backs off enough that I can live. I've been to every kind of doctor too. I've even been to the Mayo clinic. I have no insurance or money for doctors now, so I self treat. Not always the greatest outcome, but it's all I can do. I was using some aloe and oatmeal soap, but I recently started using Cetaphil and it has helped. The betadine and vinegar I use to clean my boils, as well as the hibiclens, dries my skin so much that it irritated the HS. I have been using a pure aloe for the itching and a product called Aloecain. It's for sunburn, but it helps me! I use the perianal bottles, like they give you after you've had a baby, I mix warm water and vinegar or betadine and clean myself after I use the bathroom. I had to stop using toilet paper. I just keep wash rags to dry myself and use Huggies Simply Clean when I have to use something to wipe or if I am out in public. I've heard SO MUCH good about Cleveland Clinic. I think you're in a place that you can get some help, but sometimes, doctors get too focused and forget to look outside the box. I hope this helps and I wish you peace from the pain.

My sister has pcos. I don't have that but haven't been tested specifically (I'm not sure even what test that would be). I have Crohns disease with short bowel syndrome. I don't absorb fluids and bc of this I dehydrate easy. My kidneys function constantly goes up and down. They tried spironolactone but it made my kidneys fail. I've been on 2 different birth control pills. They are about to try the depo shot. I was going to have a hysterectomy but my h.s. is so severe that they won't do it. They are afraid that if they preformed the surgery that it would just be another cavity that h.s. would take over. This has been terrible for me bc I have my menstruation cycle every 2 weeks for God knows why. I even have a cancer obgyn, top doctor at Cleveland clinic working on my case and has no answers. I'm in a perpetual flair bc it seems like I'm always on my period. It's frustrating. I'll look into that ortho evra. If this depo doesn't work, I will throw that suggestion my doctors way. It's so stupid because I have 6 Cleveland Clinc Specialists working on my h.s., 2 dermatologists, 1 plastic surgeon, 1 colorectal surgeon, and 2 obgyns. Ugh

I have PCOS and started using ortho evra several years ago and all that stopped for a while! Have you ever been checked for PCOS? Some people also use spirnolactone.
